I study the nature of knowledge* constructed in film-based photographic collections. By nature of knowledge, I mean the relationship of a photograph and reality that the photographer is creating during his acts of photographing. *tiedollinen olemus Virve Laustela, Svm
The photos are presented as a factual arguments* on their performative surroundings. Photos are simultaneously records of light an symbolic visual presentations. Heidi Piiroinen, HS * tosiasiaväite data information metadata knoweledge
A professional photographer is always photographing for a certain purpose. Therefore, photographer’s archives reflect and present his operating environments among the different subscribers. The content and style of the factual arguments in photographs depend on the photographer’s intentions; function of the photo and on the demands of the publishing environments.
How to transform tacit image content and information carried by archival order in to semantic information for museum catalogues so that we really provide access to photographic collections?
