Reduced memory footprint of virtual machines Increased virtual machine density on computer 2. Microsoft Remote FX leverages the power of virtualized graphics resources and advanced codecs to recreate the full fidelity of hardware-assisted graphics acceleration, including support for 3D content and Windows Aero™, on a remote user’s device RemoteFX adds support for any application, including 3D, and rich media to a virtual desktop environment. In doing so, RemoteFX complements and extends the user experience enhancements of the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) in Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services. It delivers a smoother and more responsive user experience in particular for modern 3D business applications such as Office 2010, Bing 3D and Internet Explorer 9. RemoteFX ensures continuity with existing RDP features while offering new and exciting capabilities for virtual or session-based desktops What’s the benefit? This allows for a rich, local-like, remote experience so that Connected knowledge and task workers can experience their workspaces in full fidelity, improving end-user productivity even on extremely low-cost clients. As a result, RemoteFX extends the benefits of a rich remote desktop or application to a wide array of end point devices, from the most powerful PC to thin clients and other access devices, offering customers more choices for their centralized computing infrastructure. Message II. “Better Performance on Reference Architectures” (Right-hand panel) As a result of continuous innovation, Hyper-V demonstrates the highest density for both Win7 & WinXP in various third party studies Win7 – both the Citrix/Intel study pre-SP1 and the Project VRC tests with SP1 RC demonstrate that highest density on Hyper-V compared to our competition Microsoft Internal tests on SP1 beta have shown that Dynamic Memory improves Win7 VM density by 40% compared to Hyper-V R2 RTM WinXP – HP Reference Architecture tests show that WinXP has the highest density on Hyper-V. The Citrix/Intel study with contradictory results was on  almost identical hardware - the HP RA gets better results with Intel CPU support for vTPR (Task Priority Register). (see below for links to studies cited) Message III. “Microsoft and Citrix together offer the flexibility users need” Enterprise customers adopting desktop virtualization will have users with needs to work from multiple locations using different types of devices. Citrix and Microsoft understand these requirements and can address all of the flexibility in device and location that users demand using HDX and RemoteFX technologies. Citrix HDX technology delivers a “high definition” desktop virtualization user experience to end users for any application, network or device, including PC, Mac, smart phone and tablets. With HDX, users get an experience that rivals a local PC, even when using multimedia, real-time collaboration, USB peripherals, and 3D graphics. HDX technology provides network and performance optimizations to deliver the best user experience over any network, including low bandwidth and high latency WAN connections. Microsoft RemoteFX enables a media-rich remote desktop environment for VDI and session virtualization and allows for a full-fidelity, local-like user experience of any screen content, including Silverlight, Flash, and HTML5. It delivers the complete Aero desktop experience with Flip3D as well as broad support for USB peripherals to a virtual desktop. RemoteFX has been designed for Windows 7 as the virtual guest OS and performs particularly well over the LAN. Together, Citrix XenDesktop with HDX and Microsoft RemoteFX deliver the most optimized user experience for any application or desktop, on any device in any location. Customers can use HDX and RemoteFX together for virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), session virtualization and dedicated blade workstations for a wide range of Windows server and client guest platforms over the LAN and the WAN networks.
