20 General For serious low band operation there are four key elements in antennas: 1. 160m full size GP 2. 80m two element GP array (also one is ok) 3. Decent antennas for 30/40m 4. Beverage(s) for RX Beve(s) are important. At 5R8X even one beve helped tremendously on 160m-30m with African stormy QRN. One excellent length is 270m if there is enough of space. Beve wire can be quite thin (0.5/0.75mm2) and the height from the ground is ~2m. For beve matching use either ready made box or ref to ON4UN book for 1:9 transformer. The Spider poles (DF4SA) are of best quality. 18m poles are light weight and sturdy. On 80m also 12m(10m) poles are fine. For 30/40m 10m fishing rods ok. 23 160 GP matching L match is used to both match the antenna closer to 50 ohms and tune the resonance somewhat. This simplifies tuning by reducing the need to take down the radiator many times. ~10turns, dia 25mm GP Radiator TX ~1500pf Component values do vary according to ground. 25 80m dual GP 80m dual GP matching is best achieved with Comtek box (available from OHDXF) The cables from the matchbox to GPs are of λ/4 electrical length: 13.2m at 3750kHz with RG213 or RG58 (Vf 0.66) Comtek is quite broad and it seems to match same GPs for CW also ok If GPs need some tuning, then similar L-match as in 160m GP can be used. Capacitors are ~ 500pF and coils are ~5-7 turns on 25mm electrician tube. Variations: Poles can be of 10-12m and top part can be in L shape If one GP is used, then physical dimension is the same and it is good to use L-match OHDXF fname.ppt / / OH6KN OHDXF OH6KN

28 30/40m phased verticals 2m high wooden supports (gray.), 10m of fishing rod (black) The fishing rods can be attachted to the supports with 3-4 lock wraps. Wire of 10.25m/40m and 7.01m/30m taped to the fishing rod. Each band need to be taped on the opposite sides of the fishing rod Both bands (radiator and radials) are connected to same feed points at the GP base Radials (lila): 10.25m/40m, 7.01m/30m, 2 on each gp and band. Elevated to about 2m height. Different bands separated by about degrees in horizontal plane. Match network: two equal length phase cables (brown) of 12.20m RG58 and one delay cable (green) of 3.0m of RG58. The firing direction is towards the gp, which has the delay cable attached to. The phase cable and delay cable are connected in parallel and to tx with a T-connector. Direction can be reversed by connecting the TX to the other junction of feed/delay cable OHDXF OH6KN
